Each room has the ability to be equipped with television, computer and internet access and pay TV for your comfort. Call loved ones or friends anywhere in Australia all for the cost of a local call - with no monthly rental. Hepburn House offers full hotel service with two separate dining areas and an on-site facility for personal laundry. With comfortable sitting rooms and tea-making facilities, you will be relaxed overlooking the beautiful surrounding valleys of Daylesford. Personal care staff are on duty 24 hours a day to provide supervision and assistance with daily living.

 

SUPPORT

Hepburn House is a supported residential service and offers security and support services to senior people.

Residents do not require an assessment by aged care services and all persons of adult age are eligible to be a resident. Medical information must be provided from prospective residents prior to admission. Charges are a based on an ingoing and service fees. Fees cover all meals, cleaning, laundering of bed linen, heating, lighting and phone rental. Hepburn House is committed to encouraging independence of residents while supporting them in a safe, secure and friendly environment and is committed to the highest standards of care.

What is Hepburn House?

A Supported Residential Service that is similar to a hostel. Regulated but not subsidised by Government.

What services are provided?

Safety, security, good food and fellowship. Assistance with personal and daily care eg assistance with showering and medication. All meals are provided and we cater for specific dietary needs eg diabetes. Our meals are cooked from fresh foods. Tea and coffee making facilities are available at all times. Hepburn House has its own library and an activities program.

Is Hepburn House suitable for couples?

Yes. There are four double rooms. Couples also have the option of securing two single rooms, typically one for a bedroom and the other for a lounge room.

Is the facility secure?

Yes. All entry and exit points are alarmed to ensure security especially at night. Nurse call buzzers are located throughout the building, beside each bed and in each ensuite.

Am I able to leave the building?

Yes. You are free to move in and out of the building in a safe manner on your own or in the company of relatives, friends or staff members. Open car parking available.

Do I have access to all areas of Hepburn House?

Residents are encouraged to access all open areas of Hepburn House as they would in their own home. These areas include dining, lounge, library, bar facility and activities area. Access to the kitchen is restricted due to government regulations unless a supervised activity is conducted.

Can I bring in my own furniture?

Yes. Residents are encouraged to furnish their rooms with personal belongings.

Do the rooms have telephones?

Yes. Payment only for calls made. Call cost to a landline anywhere within Australia is 18 cents untimed.

Do the rooms have televisions?

TV connection available in each room and is high definition compatible.

Do the rooms have computer points?

Yes. You can have your own computer or free use of computers and broadband internet within the library.

Are my relatives and friends welcome to visit?

Yes. Visitors are welcome at anytime and are encouraged to become part of the Hepburn House family.

Do I require an assessment for entry?

No. There is no requirement for aged care assessment or income assessment. However, if a person has been assessed as suitable for low care accommodation then Hepburn House is most likely to be suitable.

What is the cost of entry?

A weekly rental that covers all aspects of daily living eg meals, power, laundry and phone rental. The weekly rent is $300 - $350 per week. Most residents will be entitled to rent allowance ifcurrently receiving a pension. A once only in-going contribution that covers the capital cost of building.

Are payment options available?

Yes. Each resident or family is able to negotiate the most appropriate entry payment plan that suits their personal circumstances. For example, some residents prefer to pay a higher or lower rent and adjust the level of in-going accordingly. Other residents may prefer to pay a refundable bond.

Can I come in on a trial basis?

Yes. It is generally preferred that prospective residents come in for a 1 - 2 week period on a respite / trial basis.

What type of activities can I expect?

The type and level of activities will vary according to the resident's need. Many residents will continue to lead a full and active life within the community, some will still be using their own vehicle. For residents with reduced independence, Wendy Sculley our Care Manager will involve those residents in activity programs as agreed with our activities coordinator and the resident. Internal activities include: craft, games, music, cooking, reading, flower arrangements, use of computer, gardening, walking, painting, guest appearances and social functions. External activities include: barbeques, bush walking, shopping, attending functions, planned visits eg lakes and gardens, and entertainment venues.

What is the type and level of staffing?

Staffing is regulated by the Department of Human Services in accordance with the Health Services Act. Staff are available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Our Care Manager, Wendy Sculley is a registered nurse division 2 and qualified to manage Hepburn House. Care staff consist of Personal Carers and Division 2 nurses as appropriate. A registered nurse Div 1 oversees the resident care plan.

Do volunteers attend?

Hepburn House manages a volunteer program under a volunteer co-ordinator.

Who do I contact if I have a complaint?

Complaints received verbally or in writing are able to be managed either through staff, Care Manager, Resident meetings or Community Visitors Program. A ‘comments and complaints' system is in place and residents are encouraged to provide feedback to enable improvements to be made. An external formal complaints system is also available. In addition residents are invited to provide comments to Officers of the Community Visitors Program. Officers are appointed by the Department of Human Services and visit the facility on a regular basis.
